JK/SK Overview
The Kindergarten program focuses on developing children’s academic and social skills as they begin their school journey. To build a base for future learning, Timothy Christian School (TCS) provides a rich and stimulating environment in which students feel safe and secure. The primary focus of the program is the growth and development of the whole child.
The part-time program is offered three full days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Parents also have the option to register their children in our full-time (Mon – Fri, full day) Kindergarten program.
Every day children solve problems, share experiences, play, and increase their knowledge. The teacher directs and guides the children as they learn about God and His creation, themselves, their peers and their environment. Children are image-bearers of God with unique talents, gifts, and abilities.
Children in kindergarten are taught and participate in developmentally appropriate activities. Bible, language development, mathematics, science, social studies, music, art, and physical education are the main learning areas in the TCS Kindergarten program.
Students are nurtured and encouraged to develop a strong self-concept and independence while engaging in sharing and cooperative play. Relating appropriately to God, their teachers, their peers, and their surroundings is essential in their development as young learners.
Play time is an integral part of our Kindergarten program. Free play (children choose whom and what they play with), creative play (arts and crafts materials) and imaginative play (the use of props such as dress up) are essential elements in learning.
Opportunities to look and listen, move about and involve the whole body occur during play time. The teacher supervises, guides, and encourages the children to communicate, share, and engage in activities that help them develop academically, intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
