New board members elected, teachers honoured at spring membership meeting
New board members were elected, teachers were honoured, and the 2021 class of Timothy Christian School was recognized via special presentation (above) at the Spring Membership, Supporters and Family Meeting of the TCS Association, held virtually on May 17.
Resource teacher Alice Velthuizen was recognized for 15 years at TCS; Grade 6 teacher Amy Vander Wier for five years; and secretary Sheila Reid for more than 10 years.
Board chair Jacob Speelman also recognized the hard work of the entire staff this year, with multiple pivots from in-class to remote learning.
2020/2021 board goals were reviewed:
Ensuring COVID-19 preparedness through the TCS return-to-school plan
Development and implementation of a family retention strategy to sustain future growth
Development of a diversity, equity, and inclusion policy which addresses anti-racism from a biblical perspective
Seek to reduce deficits and move towards a balanced budget and develop our bursary program
Fundraising target of $350,000 and seek more than 50 monthly contributors.
“God has been good to our school,” said Speelman. “Through the hard work of the finance committee and fundraising, we have been able to balance our budget this year – something that looked impossible in the fall as we looked forward. Truly our God is faithful!”
“Fundraising will continue to be an area where we need to grow until we can increase our school size to the 100-family mark, in order to not be so heavily reliant on our donors,” he said.
Lechi Chisolm, Darrin Lindsay, Diego Merino and Jacqueline Solomon were each affirmed as TCS board members for a three-year term.
Outgoing board members Julie Anne Ananthasothy, Karen Milley and Laura Ubbens were thanked for their service to the North Etobicoke elementary school.
A financial update was also presented, including an increase to tuition rates. Please visit www.timothycs.com/tuition for our current rates.
Discounts for families with students also attending high school have also been discontinued in favour of a bursary program. More information on TCS bursaries is available at www.timothycs.com/bursaries.
