A new academic year has ushered in a new slate of priorities for the board of directors at Timothy Christian School in Toronto.

After enduring a period of construction and change on the school grounds in recent years, the community is looking forward to putting the new facility to use, said Jacob Speelman, new chair of the school’s 10-member board.

“After undergoing a much-needed renovation, we are excited to use that space to continue our focus on a strong education and making sure that our children are developing the building blocks for a successful Christ-centred life,” he said.

Board priorities for the 2019/2020 school year include:

1.       Drive to 105 families for September 2020.

2.       Raise $300,000 through various initiatives.

3.       Reinvest in staff and measure educational excellence.

The school is currently home to 86 families and 151 students from 46 different churches — including 17 new families this year. With the building project very close to being completed, a renewed focus will be placed on promoting the institution across the Greater Toronto Area.

After 60 years, Timothy Christian School remains a valuable educational option for Christian families in Toronto, said Speelman.

“Christian schools see things a little differently,” he said. “At Timothy, we try to help our children to see and develop their unique gifts, so that they might have a life that is spent serving God and enjoying Him forever.”

“We want TCS to be an extension of what is taught at home and in church and to be a light in the Rexdale community.”

Timothy Christian School partners with parents in laying down a life foundation centred on Christ, added Julie Anne Ananthasothy, vice-chair of the board.

“Our children's minds are being shaped with a Christian worldview in mind — both weekday and weekend,” she said.

“I go to work fully secure that my children are surrounded by a loving community of educators that see my child as a ‘child of God.’ The staff at TCS know that God designed my children with purpose — for a purpose.”
