On June 17, 2020, Grade 4 teacher Mrs. Margo Hudson will complete her 25th year of service at Timothy Christian School (TCS) in Toronto.

The longtime teacher was honoured at the 2020 spring membership meeting held virtually on May 25.

“For me, I don't think of the number of years so much as the number of faces I've seen or children I've gotten to know, teachers I've worked with, and the things I've learned,” she said.

Hudson’s time at TCS began in 1989, when she taught Grade 2.

“I wasn't married yet,” she said. “They were like my own kids. We were excited about learning together. In those days, things were different. They all wanted to sit on the teacher's lap for story time.”

Since that time, Hudson has had three children of her own. She is currently teaching Grade 4, and French to the senior classes.

Looking back

The memories she cherishes most are those of relationship and community.

“The Timothy community is like family to me,” she said. “I love that I can meet people at school, see some of them at church, see others at TDCH (Toronto District Christian High School). Each place adds a different dimension to our relationship… It's special. People pray for each other and care about each other.”

Over the years, Hudson has been heavily involved in Christmas concerts and Battle of the Books competitions.

“Margo has directed our choirs for special occasions over the years, helping our students to praise God through their singing,” said principal Marg Lise. “She has also encouraged students to love French and continue learning a second language after graduating and continuing their education.”

“She keeps us grounded in our reformed perspective. She is an amazing teacher who continues to grow in her pedagogy to help her students succeed.”

For Hudson, a quarter century of teaching has flown by.

“I really am amazed and blessed that some of my students from my early years are now parents of children in our school, colleagues with whom I teach, friends,” she said. “They grew up and now we're ‘equals’ with no awkwardness. They call me by my first name and it's natural!”

“The way God grows us through the years is incredible. He is the only reason we can do what we do every day. All glory has to go to Him.”

Located at 28 Elmhurst Drive, Timothy Christian School is home to more than 85 families and 150 students from 46 area churches.
