The Timothy Christian School board has released its Safe Reopening Plan.

The plan follows provincial guidelines announced by the Ontario government on July 30. TCS will reopen for full in-class instruction in September.

“We can safely and with assurance announce that TCS will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for students from JK through Grade 8 to attend school full time from 8:20 to 3:00, as per normal school day hours,” said TCS principal Jocelyn Paas.

“Of course, we will be ready to pivot to remote learning at any time should the public health situation require this.”

The TCS Safe Reopening Plan is a comprehensive document providing an overview of the school’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A link to the full plan is available below.

The plan prioritizes the health and safety of students and staff through strict adherence to provincial government and public health recommendations.

·      Certain protection strategies will include — but are not limited to — self-screening, adapted school environment, hand hygiene, cohorting, distancing, and limiting visitors.

·      Students from Grade 4 to 8 and school staff will be required to wear masks while indoors, though opportunities for breaks (ie. outdoor times, lunch and other designated times) will be implemented throughout the school day.

·      Parents will ensure daily screening of students before arriving at school.

·      In order to limit the number of people in the school, parents are discouraged from entering the school; however, exceptions shall include those with children in JK/SK and in emergencies.

·      The full curriculum will be taught, except for Band.

·      Extracurricular activities will be determined according to health and safety guidelines.

·      Offering before- and after-school care may be possible with the necessary health and safety protocols, including, but not limited to physical distancing, wearing masks indoors, designating a specific space (ie. the gym), spending time outdoors, and enhanced cleaning protocols, etc. TCS will monitor such considerations and implement the appropriate school care program.

“Our central objective is to ensure the safety and health of TCS students and faculty,” said Ryan Guetter, chair of the TCS Pandemic Committee. “And through it all, TCS remains committed to the provision of high-quality Christian education.”

Parents will have an opportunity to provide feedback at a virtual Town Hall session on Thursday, Aug. 20.
