Timothy Christian School’s spring membership meeting included a special presentation honouring a teacher for 25 years of service.

Senior kindergarten teacher Lorraine Groot received flowers and a certificate from the board of directors at the meeting held May 27 in the school’s new gymnasium.

“Really, what it’s all about is as they’re learning, I’m learning. I’m always learning and that’s the joy of teaching – it doesn’t get boring even though it’s been 25 years,” she said.

“The kids change. Education changes, and you can always learn something new and different, and that’s what I just absolutely love.”

Mrs. Groot has brought much wisdom to the staffroom table during her tenure, said TCS principal Margareth Lise.

“We are very grateful for her experience and the beautiful work that she does with her SK students,” she said. “She is a blessing to her students and to the staff.”

The school membership meeting also included updates from the board of directors and TCS staff, reviewing another year of God’s faithfulness to the North Etobicoke elementary school.

A report from the building committee celebrated the opening of the new gymnasium, atrium and school offices. The project will continue through the summer, and work will also begin on transitioning the former gym into a library and music space.

A report from the finance committee proposed a budget for the coming school year, with tuition fees remaining the same for 2019/2020.

Marcel Vander Wier was also elected to join the TCS board of directors, and will serve in a communications capacity.
