Graduating class bids farewell to Timothy Christian School

Thirteen students graduated from Timothy Christian School, June 19, in a ceremony held on-site in the school’s new gymnasium.
It was the first time the Grade 8 graduation ceremony was held at the North Etobicoke school. Parents, teachers and supporters were in attendance to celebrate the students.
In a year marked by construction and change, the senior students grew in knowledge and spirit, said Grade 8 teacher Mrs. Barb Ubbens.
“These students have such a rich variety of talents given by our Lord,” she said. “Amazing art vision, fantastic focus on math and curiosity in science. Laughter, friendships, challenges and triumphs. We have all developed a great understanding of our place in God's plan and the beauty of his grace and love.”
“It has been grand and you will all be missed,” said Mrs. Ubbens. “You have challenged me to teach well; you have responded with curiosity, leadership and achievement. Take all that God blesses you with, and all the richness of his love and jump in to the next learning adventure.”
Co-valedictorian Charley-Katelin Ngo recounted the memories made at Timothy Christian School, including doing good deeds in Grade 2 to earn coins that could be spent at Ms. Vanessa Chiang’s classroom “store;” principal Mrs. Marg Lise’s reader’s theatre tradition, and epic snowball fights at Turpin Park with Ms. Janice Miedema in Grade 5.
The Grade 7 trip to Ontario Pioneer Camp in Muskoka was also a major highlight, she said.
“All these memories were made possible thanks to all the people that gave to this wonderful school,” said Ngo.
“This school is truly a blessing we received from our God.”
The school facility has incurred much change over the past year — and decade, noted co-valedictorian Philip Lee.
“We have our new facilities; our community is expanding,” he said. “We all as a community grew up in this school. As we grow, we discover and find our own unique skill sets that God has given to each and every person.”
From learning letters, numbers and colours under the direction of kindergarten teacher Mrs. Lorraine Groot through to project-based learning taught years later by Mrs. Ubbens — all of it was completed by the grace of God, said Lee.
“This school is truly a blessing we received from our God.”
